The Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation, a non-profit organization focused on supporting innovative early career researchers, has elected William G. Kaelin, Jr., MD and William Raveis, Jr., to its prestigious Board of Directors.

These highly accomplished leaders will continue to help our organization grow and become even more effective in our mission to provide today’s best young scientists with the funding necessary to pursue innovative cancer research,” said Lorraine Egan, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Damon Runyon Foundation.
William G. Kaelin, Jr., MD is Chairman of the Damon Runyon Clinical Investigator Award Committee and of the Damon Runyon Physician-Scientist Training Award Committee. He is a Professor in the Department of Medicine at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and serves as Associate Director, Basic Science, for the Dana-Farber/Harvard Cancer Center. He earned his undergraduate and medical degrees from Duke University and completed his training in internal medicine at the Johns Hopkins Hospital, where he served as chief medical resident. He was a clinical fellow in medical oncology at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and later a postdoctoral fellow in the laboratory of Dr. David Livingston. Bill is a Howard Hughes Medical Institute Investigator, a member of the National Academy of Sciences and the Institute of Medicine and has received prestigious awards for a landmark discovery about how cells sense oxygen, and how that mechanism is hijacked in kidney cancer.
William Raveis, Jr. is Founder, Chairman and CEO of William Raveis Real Estate, Mortgage & Insurance, the largest family-owned real estate company in the Northeast. After attending the Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation’s Annual Breakfast in 2014 he decided to partner with the Foundation to raise awareness and support. The William Raveis Charitable Fund sponsored two William Raveis Ride + Walk events in Connecticut and Massachusetts, raising $500,000 in 2015, and they are committed to increasing that amount significantly over time.
Registration has just opened for the 2016 Raveis Ride + Walk events in support of the Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation:
- Ride + Walk Massachusetts will take place on Saturday October 1st at the Derby Academy located at 56 Burditt Avenue in Hingham, Massachusetts.
- Ride + Walk Connecticut/New York will take place on Sunday, October 16th at the Calf Pasture Beach in Norwalk, Connecticut.
